Upon disassembly of the new-to-me 460, I came across a few problems. A cracked exhaust manifold bolt hole in one of the heads, a cracked timing chain cover, a TON of slop in the timing chain, and a bent push rod.

So, since I'm going to be stripping the engine down pretty far to change out that one head (which I was originally hoping to not mess with pulling the heads)... I'm going to go ahead and do new rings, main bearings, rod bearings, and freeze plugs at the same time. Also going to be installing a straight up timing chain to get rid of the smog emissions timing retard crap. I will be pulling the head, timing cover, oil pickup, and oil pan off my other engine to throw on this truck.

The idea of attempting to port the heads have crossed my mind, but I don't think I'm going to. I may pick up another set to work on porting, but if I do that, I'll probably have the machine work done to put in some larger valves, and go with all new springs, stainless valves, roller rockers, etc. The works. For now, my current engine build doesn't need that. It just needs to start, and run, somewhat reliably.

I should have some pictures to show off by the end of the weekend. For now, all I have are some pictures of a dirty 460, and a bent push-rod. No one cares to see those.

Also bought most of an EFI 460 serpentine belt setup. Will be here tomorrow, then I can look over what I have, and what I need to go to the junkyard and pick up. Hopefully I won't be missing more than a pulley or two. May try to find a saginaw power steering pump bracket off of a van and go that route, instead of the regular ford P/S pump.

Block is painted. Didn't make much other progress, because I got side tracked helping my mother with something. Took 1 head, and the pistons/rods back to my apartment. Going to clean them all up, and install the new rings there. Also going to clean up the head, plug the crossover tube hole in the back, plug the thermactor holes up. And try my hand at porting. I donated to www.reincarnation-automotive.com, so I can follow his 460 head porting guide.

Bought a Dremel from a pawn shop, and ordered some diamond cut carbide burrs from Harry Epstein's. Now I just need to find a cheap folding table to use... Going to attempt to port my heads. Gasket match on the intake and exhaust, some bowl blending, and a couple other little things. Should be able to get the heads flowing in the 185-190cfm range which will be a huge improvement, and actually respectable for stock heads.

So... i uhh.... kinda sorta decided "f**k the big white truck". It was nothing but a headache and a pain. Nothing was going right. So... uhhh....

yeah. this truck is getting some cool parts. :headbang

kingpin dana 60, sterling rear, 5.13s, detroits, coilovers, 3 link front, 4 link rear, etc. 460/c6/np203/np205.

I've got it drug up to my new place, and shoved into the garage. Make some pretty quick progress. I'm out of town for a work right now. But none of that crap is important. Y'all like pictures, right? I'll let them do all the talking. If you have any questions/comments/etc, post em up.
